Restart your device
A lot of issues are easily resolved by simply restarting your mobile device. If you are having problems, try this first.
If our app freezes, you should exit the app completely and then launch it again (Apple version):
While you’ve got our app open, tap once on the home button (main round button on the phone).
Then double tap the Home button to bring up the Multitasking bar.
Tap and hold anywhere on the multitasking bar until the icons on it start to wiggle.
While they are wiggling, each icon has a Minus sign symbol above it.
Press the Minus symbol above the Sounds icon to close it down.
Launch the app again and check that it is now working correctly.
Redownload and Reinstall the Application
If restarting doesn’t help, you may want to try re-downloading the application and installing it again. If you want to remove the application from your device first, just be aware that removing an application will delete application data for good.
The phonemic chart looks incomplete
If the chart or the phonetic keyboard in the Practice and Quiz sections is different from what you were expecting, it may be that you are working in British English or American English mode – the charts look different and the American English one has less phonemes. To change from one to the other, on the Sounds app menu page, go to More > Settings and change the mode from American to British or vice versa and then look at the chart again.
Also, when you select a wordlist for Quiz or Practice, the phonetic keyboard will automatically change to British English or American English, depending on the wordlist you selected.
Installation and Compatibility Issues
The Pronunciation App is compatible with devices running the Apple iOS operating system (iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad), or the Android operating system. Android devices which have a small screen (less than 320×470 pixels) are not compatible with our app as the screen is not big enough to display the phonemic chart accurantely. If the app doesn’t appear in the Android Market on your device, it’s because your device is not compatible so it won’t let you download it.
Unable to find the Sounds app in the app marketplace
For incompatible phones Sounds: The Pronunciation App will not appear in the Android Market.
Sounds works with any Android device running OS 2.0 or later.
Please note the App is only compatible with Apple and Android operating systems and the screen size needs to be at least 320×470 pixels.
